Viaggio in Europa: Baroque Opera Concerts
This unique project by the Czech Handel Society will feature tenor Petr Nekoranec and harpsichordist Kateřina Ochmanová in the programme Viaggio in Europa. Focusing on European Baroque opera, the programme will first be presented at Břevnov Monastery in Prague and shortly afterwards at the prestigious Bayreuth Baroque festival. Among other things, the project will help showcase Czech musical artistry abroad.

About the project
Viaggio in Europa, or A Journey Through Europe, brings Baroque music performed by two leading Czech musicians to audiences at home and abroad. The Czech Handel Society project will present tenor Petr Nekoranec and harpsichordist Kateřina Ochmanová in an intimate programme that will take listeners into the diverse world of 17th- and 18th-century European opera.
The programme brings together arias by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel and Jean-Philippe Rameau. The selection will introduce listeners to different musical traditions while exploring varied forms of vocal expression and the composers’ contrasting approaches to the dramatic portrayal of operatic characters. The intimate setting for tenor and harpsichord leaves ample room for dialogue between the two performers.
The Prague concert will take place on 7 September 2026 in the Theresian Hall at Břevnov Monastery. Five days later, the same programme will be presented at the Bayreuth Baroque festival, which has scheduled the concert for 12 September at the Schlosskirche, the town’s castle church.
The project therefore extends beyond a single concert evening. It connects the cultural life of Prague 6 with that of its twin city, Bayreuth, and creates an opportunity to present Czech musical artistry to an international audience.
