To mark the Czech Republic’s Guest of Honour appearance at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Meander Publishing has produced a German–Czech edition of its popular guide to Prague for children and parents. Building on the Czech–English Meandry Prahy / Meanders Through Prague, published in 2023, it offers a fresh perspective on the city and its lesser-known corners.

  • the bilingual edition connects Czech and German readers and fosters interest in Czech culture abroad through personal stories by Czech authors

About the project

The new German–Czech edition of this popular guide to Prague for children and parents is one of the books representing Czech culture at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, where the Czech Republic is the Guest of Honour. Building on the popular Czech–English Meanders Through Prague, published in 2023, it offers fresh perspectives on the Czech capital and its lesser-known corners.

Contributors to the new edition are writers from the Czech literary scene who share their personal recommendations, favourite places and memories of Prague. This richly illustrated pocket guide combines their perspectives with historical context, literary stops and a playful approach to exploring the city. Durch Prag mäandern invites readers of all ages to leave the shortest route behind and follow Prague’s twists and turns, discovering the “mother of cities” through the eyes of those who live, write and create there. All the contributors either have ties to the German literary scene or have translations of their books due to be published soon. They are Anna Bolavá, Petr Borkovec, Ondřej Buddeus, Kilian Kirchgessner, Ivana Pecháčková, Markéta Pilátová, Eva Slunečková, Petr Stančík, Michal Šanda, Marie Topolová, Kateřina Tučková, David Zábranský and Jonáš Zbořil. Their texts are accompanied by illustrations by Alžběta Božeková and Dan Rerko.

The book also serves as a gift from the Czech Republic, as Guest of Honour, to German readers, inviting them to visit Prague and explore it with tips from literary figures.
