The Dejvice Theatre: a Czech stage in European dialogue
The Dejvice Theatre has prepared a three-year strategy to systematically strengthen its international context. It will focus on international touring, co-productions, cooperation with European artists and the creation of a support structure that will make international activities a permanent part of the theatre’s work.

About the project
Since its founding in 1992, The Dejvice Theatre has built a distinctive position on the Czech theatre scene. It is based on a strong ensemble, outstanding acting personalities, sensitive dramaturgy and a way of working that can capture complex human situations with precision, naturalness and humour. Its intimate format, emphasis on acting and themes that are understandable across cultures create a strong foundation for a greater international presence.
The international activities strategy for 2026–2028 aims to develop this potential systematically. The Dejvice Theatre wants to regularly present selected productions at international festivals and showcases, prepare co-production projects with European partners and open up cooperation with international directors and artists. The plan also includes active involvement in international professional networks, such as the European Theatre Convention, Perform Europe and PEARLE*.
Our support will help create the foundation that is essential for fulfilling a long-term international strategy. Since 2026, the theatre has had an international activities coordinator; in 2027, a specialised department is planned. It will seek opportunities for European touring, prepare presentation materials, develop contacts with partners and take care of co-production partnerships.
The goal is not to achieve the highest possible number of trips abroad, but to create meaningful projects with long-term benefit. Over the course of three years, The Dejvice Theatre aims to undertake international touring, prepare premieres with international participation, strengthen multi-source financing and establish international cooperation as a natural part of its operations. The project can thus contribute not only to the growth of an important Czech theatre company, but also to a more visible presence of Czech theatre in the European cultural space, while at the same time enriching the Czech cultural scene with new impulses and inspiration.
